The Service Tax Commissionerate New Delhi has constituted a new branch i.e. “Survey and Investigation Branch” (SIB). The SIB shall be headed by an Assistant/Deputy Commissioner (SIB) and work under the overall supervision of Additional/Joint Commissioner (Technical).

The main functions of the Survey and Investigation Branch (SIB) are as following:-

• Data collection on the basis of various sources like website, yellow pages for the purpose of the identification of Service Tax assessees not registered with the Service Tax Department.
• Conducting physical surveys for identifying the service tax providers who are not registered with the department, in particular new services.
• Verification of the references received from other Commissionerate/Higher formations regarding the proper payment of Service Tax.
• The implementation of the Action Plan or such plans as issued by the Board from time to time.
• Disseminate information to potential charts to improve level of voluntary compliance.
